How Should Your Kids Watch the Star Wars Saga?

Snarkmarket asks in which sequence kids should view the Star Wars films. The first option is its intended order, Episode I through VI. The second is their original release order -IV to VI and I to III. Snarkmarket offers and alternate sequence:

Let me make the case for an alternate sequence. Tell the story according to the age-appropriateness of the films. Essentially, you make the trilogy a big parallel montage, matching archetypes across different times, generations, and places — kind of like LOST.

On this theory, you begin with Star Wars IV: A New Hope. It’s the best stand-alone movie in the series, and if your kid isn’t into it, it’ll probably take a while for them to be into the rest.

Then, jump to I: The Phantom Menace. You can explain that this is the story of Luke’s father Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and C-Threepio. No spoilers necessary!

This is probably the best answer I’ve heard to this question.

thefrogman asked:
Have you heard anything about Star Wars coming out on blu-ray? What is Lucas waiting for? Does he want to digitally add Jar Jar into the original trilogy or something?

I haven’t heard anything, sorry.

One thing I have heard about and enjoy quite a bit is Adywan’s Starwars Revisited. If you haven’t heard about it, I suggest you do a little googling and track it down. It’s a little tough to find a page dedicated to it, but this Amazon page does a pretty good job of giving you the low down, as well as a few links to find out more info. It’s really quite amazing. I would try to describe it to you, but I really can’t do it justice. Here’s another link that gives you a break down of the changes that went in to it.

At the very end of the Amazon page, is a paragraph which may be of interest to you: “Adywan is also doing a Blue ray edition for all six movies to be released for free on torrent sites and newsgroups - and all fan-edits are free and legal to download as long as you own the 2006 DVD trilogy set.”

Anonymous asked:
My girlfriend and I are going to watch all six of the movies in the course of the week (She's never seen any of them ( I know, I know, but I see it as an honor,)). What order would you recommend watching them in? I would say in the narrative order, rather than the order I saw the in but the older ones might keep her interested longer. What do you think?

You should see this opportunity as an honor, you get to introduce her to wonderful thing that we all know an love.

This question has come up before, and I really don’t have a straightforward answer for you, but I’ll do my best. I think you should show them in the order that they came out, IV, V, VI then I, II, III. There are a couple reasons I believe this, and not because I like the originals better. I say this because I think the originals are more engaging, and leave you wanting to know more - that’s where the prequels come in. Seeing them in this order also doesn’t ruin the plot twist at the end of Empire where Vader reveals that he is Luke’s father - tho your girlfriend probably already knows this fact, but so what. I also think seeing the originals first makes Vader more mysterious and thus scarier. Last reason I’m gonna give for this order (since I really need to get back to work) is that you save her the exposure to Jar Jar until later. It’s gonna happen, but why do it first thing.

Hope that helps, have a great time, and may the Force be with you both!

Please come back after your done and leave a comment on this post, I’d love to hear how it went and what she thought.

‘Dada I watch Movie?’

A Distracted By Star Wars tale from natertatertot:

My two year old son, who has become fascinated with Star Wars as of late, thinks that the box sets of the Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy are one movie. He goes ‘Dada I watch Orange movie?!’ (the box for the prequel trilogy is sort of orange) and ‘Dada I watch Blue one?!’ (the box for the original trilogy is blue). He then picks one of the movies out of the box, opens the case, pulls out one of the discs and puts it in the DVD player. He is fascinated by the opening crawl and I will sometimes hear him whistling the Star Wars theme (yes my two year old can whistle). He recognizes various Star Wars characters and goes, ‘MOVIE!’. According to him, it isn’t Star Wars it is Movie. He is correct, Star Wars is the MOVIE. The best movie saga ever.
